Hi from us here at RH Training Services,
I wanted to bring up an issue that concerns a lot of colleagues of mine when discussing the contents of a first aid at work first aid kit. In First aid at work we always put emphasis on the importance of infection control and to protect yourself against harmful substances such as infectious bodily fluids, a pair of gloves is an essential part of a first aid at work first aid kit and in some first aid at work kits so is an apron. However a CPR face shield or mask is not mentioned in the basic essentials for a first aid at work first aid kit.
If you have ever given CPR to a casualty more often than not they are oozing bodily fluid from their mouth and nose region, therefore it seems ludicrous to us here at RH Training Services why a CPR face shield or pocket mask is not included in a First aid at work first aid kit for basic protection for our first aiders. On every course all of our delegates are provided with a face shield and advised to carry it with them in their pocket at all times within the workplace, we think this should be a national standard. We will continue to spread this message across all of our West Midlands and nationwide courses.
Thanks for reading our first aid blog once again
